Location & description: This city centre bar is certainly a bit different! Housed in a former gents toilet beneath the town hall, Public’s unique setting and vibe have led to it being aptly described as "a Wes Anderson train carriage crowbarred into an old bog."
Recognised by the Observer as the UK’s best place to drink in 2018, Public boasts one of Sheffield’s best cocktail menus, featuring ten classic cocktails and ten original ‘twists’ devised in-house. This is paired with a regularly updated selection of small plates.
Prices are appropriate to the calibre of the food and drink on offer, but this does make Public one of the dearer options listed here. If you’re after an intimate evening, with a touch of quirk and class, Public this should be top of your list.

Location & description: This Division Street institution has now been running for over a decade. Its great menu and experienced team make this one the best bars for cocktails in Sheffield. These are paired with delicious Mexican food from the Shy Boy Cantina. Gatsby is open until 2am weeknights and 3am with music on weekends. It has a cosy beer garden that makes it perfect for a summer visit.

Location & description: Situated on Devonshire street, the Common Room is Sheffield’s only 2-storey sports bar. The friendly team are keen to appeal to every sports fan, by encouraging customers to request any game they’d like to watch

West Street Live

Location & description: Located on (you guessed it) West Street, this well known bar is open until 3am every day of the week. It’s an independent, compact live music venue with free entry. A wide variety of bands play until 11pm every night followed by DJs to keep the party pumping into the early hours. Being open until 3am every night makes WSL a good card to have up your sleeve, and means it’s often the final destination of spontaneous nights out that begin as ‘one quick pint’ at the local.

Location & description: This quintessentially Irish Bar is a key West Street attraction. Open 7 days per week till 4am, it combines live music with sports and promises the best craic in town! Location & description: The cornerstone of Abbeydale Road nightlife, Picture House Social offers an enviable selection of craft beers, quality cocktails and a food menu that includes Neopolitan style pizzas and poutine fries. Its real USP is its ‘Shuffle Chack’, which houses Deck Shuffleboards in a converted 1920s ballroom. Location & description: This West Street institution rounds off our list of the best bars in Sheffield. Things are done a little differently at the Wick. Their cocktail menu draws inspiration from famous confectionery, and a food menu featuring whacky pizzas toppings, including full English breakfast! Their late opening and regular DJ sets make this a good place to go for a party.
Student deals & offers: Students should head to the Wick at Both Ends on Wednesdays and Thursdays when they run student deals such as £3.50 Amstel, 2 for 10 on certain cocktails, and 4 shots of the speciality shot for £10.
